Spanish Space Agency seeks experts to evaluate space research projects

3 de November de 2026

The Spanish Space Agency (AEE) has opened a call for experts from the scientific and technological community to participate in the evaluation of upcoming space research projects. The initiative aims to strengthen scientific excellence, transparency and independence in the allocation of public funding for space-related research and innovation.

This represents a significant milestone for Spain’s space sector, as the AEE will directly manage its first dedicated call for space research projects, taking over responsibility for the Space thematic area previously managed by the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI).

The initiative is part of the State Plan for Scientific, Technical and Innovation Research (PEICTI 2024–2027) and reflects Spain’s commitment to strengthening its national space research and innovation ecosystem.

Who can apply?

The Agency is looking for researchers and professionals with proven experience in space-related R&D and innovation, particularly those working at universities, research centres and public research organisations.

Relevant fields of expertise include:

  • Space sciences: astrophysics, solar physics and planetary science.
  • Space engineering and technology: propulsion systems, spacecraft platforms and subsystems.
  • Earth observation: satellite applications and remote sensing technologies.
  • Space communications and navigation: satellite communications, navigation systems and onboard computing.
  • Enabling technologies: innovative technologies supporting the development of the space sector.

Selected experts may contribute to the evaluation process through individual technical assessments and participation in expert committees.

All evaluation activities will be conducted under strict requirements concerning confidentiality, impartiality and the prevention of conflicts of interest.

Both individual assessments and participation in technical evaluation committees are remunerated, in accordance with applicable Spanish public-sector regulations.

How to register

Interested professionals can apply through the Spanish Space Agency’s electronic headquarters.

Applicants must access the “Evaluación” (Evaluation) section, complete the expert registration form and upload their CV in PDF format.

Following verification of the information provided, the Agency will notify applicants of their inclusion in the pool of experts eligible to participate in future evaluation procedures.

Supporting the growth of Spain’s space ecosystem

The creation of this expert evaluation pool marks another step towards strengthening Spain’s scientific and technological capabilities in the space sector.

By involving experienced researchers and technology specialists in the assessment of innovative projects, the initiative contributes to the development of a more competitive, knowledge-driven space ecosystem.

For ESA BIC Castilla-La Mancha, initiatives that strengthen space research and technological excellence are particularly relevant to the wider innovation environment in which space-based startups and entrepreneurs develop their solutions.

The programme supports innovative businesses working with space technologies and applications, helping to connect entrepreneurship, technological development and new market opportunities.

Further information and registration are available through the Spanish Space Agency’s electronic headquarters, under the “Evaluación” section.
